Hand in Glove xx – Laudanum xx – Alme Z

Jaguar Mail is a big, noble stallion with almost entirely Thoroughbred bloodlines in his pedigree.  His jumping is characterized by his scope and rideability, and his International career has been exceptional.  Under Patrice Deleveau he had placings at both the French Championships and the World Breeding Championships for young horses.  At 7 years old, Jaguar began competing at Grand Prix, and by the following year was already on the WBFSH rankings.

In 2007 Jaguar Mail moved to Sweden and began his partnership with Peter Eriksson.  After just two months together, the pair placed second at the Swedish Championships and later that year won the “Sires of the World” competition in Belgium.  The following year Jaguar Mail and Peter were important members of the Swedish National Team with placings in Gothenburg, Rotterdam, and Falsterbo.  At the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong, the Swedish Team placed 5th overall and Jaguar Mail was 33rd in the Individual Final. In 2010 Jaguar Mail was paired with the young rider Margaux Rocuet.  Together they won the French Young Rider Championships in July, were 8th in the Ladies Championships in September, and won several Grand Prix.

Jaguar Mail’s sire is the magnificent Thoroughbred Hand In Glove who had an exceptional, multi-discipline sport career.  Only lightly raced, Hand In Glove was developed as a dressage horse up to the Prix St. Georges level and as a show jumper, competing at the Grand Prix level.    Hand in Glove was accepted by 15 different studbooks and has produced international winners for both show jumping and eventing including Famoso Mail, Frisco Mail, Free Style, and Ikat Mail. Grandsire Best Turn was stationed at the legendary Calumet Farm.  He won 15 of his 28 races and sired 24 Stakes winners.  He was also a very successful sport horse sire, with his progeny including the International show jumper MVP and the FEI dressage horse Shinning Moment.

Jaguar Mail’s dam, Elvira Mail, is a daughter of another Thoroughbred sport stallion Laudanum.  Described as careful and courageous, Laudanum was a winner of Grand Prix, Puissance, and Nations Cup classes and earned over 100,000 French Francs with Pierre Durand.  Elvira Mail has also produced the World Cup participant and WEG Silver Medalist Katchina Mail.

Jaguar Mail’s first foals were born in 2003 and had immediate success when two of his fillies finished 4th and 5th at the French Foal Championships that year. That first foal crop continued to impress as they developed and the Vice champion at the National 3 year old Stallion Show in 2006 was the Jaguar Mail son Play Again D’Orchival. Play Again brilliantly won the two free jumping tests with a score of 8.7 out of a possible 10 and was 2nd for the gaits test with a 7.8 out of 10 points. In 2010, Jaguar Mail had 11 horses qualified for the 4, 5, 6 year old French Championships at Fontainebleau. Jaguar Mail was the only stallion to have two offspring competing in the 2013 World Young Eventing Horse Championships. Of these two offspring, Tenareze was the commanding winner of the 6-Year Old Championship, finishing on his dressage score. Just as his father before him, Jaguar produces excellent horses in multiple disciplines.

This talented stallion offers a lot of blood and size. All three gaits show good quality and his canter stands out with its suppleness, balance, and adjustability. He has quick reflexes, good strength in his back, and a strong technique behind. Jaguar offers a super character that is generous and respectful.

Canadian Breeders Shipping from Moore Equine

To help our Canadian breeders save on shipping expenses and the hassle of getting an import permit, Hilltop Farm ships a limited amount of frozen semen to Moore Equine in Calgary, Alberta at the start of each breeding season for distribution within Canada. We will ship four doses of frozen semen to Moore Equine for each contract booked prior to this group shipment. Doses will be distributed at a max of two doses per cycle. If a mare is not confirmed in foal after utilizing those doses, it would be necessary for the mare owner to follow our typical import procedure to obtain semen for any additional breeding cycles. All shipment requests for semen in Canada will still be sent to Hilltop Farm and follow Hilltop’s standard notification schedule. For more information on deadlines to be included in the group shipment to Canada or to inquire about frozen semen already located in Canada contact Brittany.

Mare Management Reminders

At Hilltop Farm we want to work closely with you and your veterinarian to ensure a successful breeding season and are available for questions at any time. The following information includes some basic suggestions as well as reminders on a few requirements for your breeding contract.

A Breeding Soundness Exam including a uterine culture is recommended, but not required, for all mares prior to breeding. If a mare fails to settle after two breeding cycles, Hilltop Farm will require a culture and cytology to be done at that time prior to any additional shipments of semen. We always recommend your vet checking your mare post-breeding to confirm ovulation. If a mare hangs on to a follicle longer than expected, it can be less expensive to ship additional semen than it would be to breed a second complete cycle. Getting your mare settled in foal is just the beginning. We recommend multiple pregnancy checks to help prevent cases of twins, misdiagnosed pregnancies, or lost time in the breeding season. The following schedule is what we recommend; only the first and fourth checks however are required by your breeding contract.
  • 1st check (Required): 14-16 days post ovulation - optimum time for vet to pinch off a twin if more than a single ovulation is noted.
  • 2nd check (Recommended): 28 days post ovulation – to confirm a viable pregnancy as the heartbeat normally appears by day 25.
  • 3rd check (Recommended): 35-40 days post ovulation – to confirm maintained pregnancy prior to endometrial cup formation. Mares that slip foals early may not come back into heat.
  • 4th check (Required): 55-60 days post ovulation – final confirmation of pregnancy in its critical first trimester.
Following your mare’s 55-60 day pregnancy check, please have your vet finish completing the Mare Breeding Passport and return it to Hilltop Farm by September 15th. This Passport is used in all stallion reports to various breed registries and is used to generate a Breeding Certificate so that you can register your foal.

Registration Information

Your mare’s registration and approval play just as important of a role as the stallion’s approvals when determining registration options for your foal. Please keep in mind that in order to register your foal with a specific association, your mare may first need to be presented to that registry for approval. In addition to the registries a stallion is approved with, there may be additional registration options based on your mare’s eligibility and the stallion’s credentials. If you are confused at all on registration options for a potential foal, please speak with Hilltop Farm and your breed registry PRIOR to booking your breeding.
