About Alligator Fontaine

Alligator Fontaine is a magnificent sport horse and an amazing international stallion to be reckoned with.  His pedigree offers a number of connections that are especially notable for North American breeders.

His sire is Noren, a Selle Francais stallion that was shown for many years by American rider Katie Monahan.  Under Katie, Noren won 10 International Grand Prix in three seasons, was the AGA “Horse of the Year” in 1982, won the American Invitational in 1983, and placed 9th at the World Cup Finals that same year.

Alligator Fontaine’s dam is the ½ sister of another American showjumping star, the stallion I Love You, who was the 1983 World Cup winner and named “Horse of the Year.”  In addition to Alligator Fontaine his dam has produced two other International winners, Frisco Mail (Hand In Glove xx) and Frascator Mail (Jalisco B).

Alligator Fontaine was a great performing stallion that had many victories at the International level. At 8-9 years of age, and under Michel Robert, he won many CSI and CSIO competitions. In 1998, World Champion Eric Navet took over the ride on Alligator.  The pair placed 2nd in Aachen three times, won at Deauville and Bordeaux twice, were winners of the Master Stallions at Caen, and were named the 1999 French Champions at Fontainbleau.  That same year he obtained the jumping index of ISO:190, the highest score ever recorded and yet to be beaten by any other horse or stallion!

At the age of 12, Alligator won 16 international events in only 13 CSI or CSIO shows.... an amazing record ! The following season he won another 8 events in international shows and was 2nd in the Derby at Dinard. All together Alligator Fontaine won over 1.5 million Francs in prize money.

Alligator Fontaine began his breeding career in 1994 and from his second foal crop came the exceptional mare Jalisca Solier.  This mare was the Bronze Medalist at the French Ladies Championship show in 2005 and was then purchased for the Swiss rider Steve Guerdat.  Jalisca Solier won her first CSI Grand Prix, was 3rd at Bruxelles CSI 5*, 4th in Paris Grand Prix, and won World Cup qualifiers at Geneva and Vigo in 2006 & 2007. In 2008 they were chosen for the Swiss team at the Beijing Olympics and won the Bronze team Medal and placed 10th individually. In 2009, she won the Gold team Medal at the European Championships.

Every year Alligator Fontaine has several offspring qualified for the young horse finals in Fontainebleau, but his influence is being felt worldwide.  In Italy, the 2003 Champion Filly was sired by Alligator Fontaine and the same year another yearling filly was named the Supreme Champion of Argentina.  The WBFSH currently ranks Alligator Fontaine in the Top 100 Show Jumping Sires of the World.

Alligator Fontaine is a tall horse with an excellent and strong backline, a very nice shoulder, and a beautiful neck supporting his ever so expressive head.  He has a ground covering walk, his trot is active although could perhaps show more amplitude, and his canter has enormous volume and reach.  He crosses very well on smaller or medium sized mares that have a fair bit of blood in their pedigree.

“The pedigree of Alligator Fontaine goes off the well-trodden path , allowing a new and richer genetic choice for producing sporthorses, as he is completely free of the blood of Alme, Uriel or Grand Veneur.” ~ Bernard Le Courtois
