About Lord Leatherdale
With a great depth of pedigree representing the best of Westfalen breeding lines, Lord Leatherdale has proven an interesting outcross stallion for KWPN breeders. His sire Lord Loxley was Reserve Champion at the 2004 FEI World Championships for Young Horses and later that fall won the Bundeschampionat as a 5-year old with a score of 9.4 points. Commented judge Christoph Hess, "This was top class. He's a world class horse. He has a spectacular trot with a very good hind leg that stay closed. He keeps the nose nicely in front and is right on the vertical. His walk is through the back, his canter is excellent, uphill and forward." Two years later Lord Loxley had produced a number of victories in M-dressage and placed 4th in his first S-level competition.
Lord Loxley descends from Lord Sinclair who commandingly won his Stallion Performance Test and twice captured the Federal Championships. Lord Sinclair has already sired over 20 approved sons including Sir Sinclair and Lord of Dancing. Lord Loxley’s dam brings in the valuable Hanoverian blood of Weltmeyer ~ one of the most influential dressage sires in the past 20 years.
The dam’s side of Lord Leatherdale’s pedigree is of interest as well. Grandsire Ferragamo, who descends from Furioso II, was 2nd in his Stallion Performance Test with an overall 123.63 points and finished with the top score in the dressage phase of 135.96 points. Great-grandsire Anmarsch is a son of Angelo xx, sire of Olympic competitors including Reiner Klimke’s wonderful Ahlerich and damsire of Rubinstein. The combination of Lord Loxley and Fairless P has resulted in three licensed stallions!
At his Stallion Performance Test Lord Leatherdale was Reserve Champion overall and was described as an ‘honest, trustworthy stallion that likes to work and has a good attitude. The stallion is very willing to work. In movement Lord Leatherdale has much self-carriage, much balance and much to very much suppleness. Lord Leatherdale has much to very much talent for dressage and gives his rider a good feeling.”
He continues to be developed in sport and is showing incredible talent for the FEI work. In addition, Lord Leatherdale has been a very popular breeding stallion in Holland and his offspring are already bringing him notice. In the fall of 2007, Lord Leatherdale’s first offspring were evaluated by the KWPN officials with very positive feedback. The foals as a whole showed a very uniform type with a good rectangular model. They moved well using their whole body and offered a naturally uphill trot.
In 2010 the Lord Leatherdale son Chippendale, out of a Negro daughter, took part in the KWPN spring Performance Test. The judges noted his beautiful front end and expressive canter for which they awarded him a ‘9’ and gave Lord Leatherdale his first KWPN approved son. That same year, Danish Olympic Team rider Andreas Helgstrand purchased the 3-year old Cyrano (Lord Leatherdale-Negro-Carthago) for 125,000 euro at the EFS Sport Horse Auction. In 2011, Lord Leatherdale's oldest offspring turned 4 years old. Three placed in the Top Ten of the Pavo Cup competition, the most of any sire, and Chippendale finished fourth overall.
“Lord Leatherdale is proving to be a very popular sire in Holland and we are excited to add him to our stallion line-up. He offers long lines, modern type, expressive movement, and top quality character and rideability.” ~ Natalie DiBerardinis
