Rubels was an undisputed success throughout his career. In 1999, he was in the top three of the NRPS approvals, where he stood out in the group of young stallions due to his exceptional basic paces and jumping style. At the Performance Testing that followed, he earned an 8 for jumping and 9's throughout the rest of his evaluation. He was the highest scoring NRPS stallion presented in the dutch performance testing system to date!

In 2001, as a 5-year old under his rider/trainer Hans Peter Mindenhoud, Rubels won his first Championship title at the FEI World Breeding Championships for Young Horses. He repeated this victory in 2002, earning his second world title and convincing all the judges and audience of his marvelous talent. Rubels was also the 2002 and 2003 Zwolle International Stallion Show winner. Anna van Olst then competed Rubels successfully on the Small Tour before he was reunited with Minderhoud and was in training for a Grand Prix debut.

Rubels was by the successful Grand Prix dressage stallion Rafürstinels who is by the world-famous Rubinstein. His dam Klarinettels was a dressage mare herself, earning her 'sport' predicate due to her success in competition. Klarinettels dam Dasanette descends from the famous Ramiro-Joost-Abgar-Wagner line from Stal Roeloff (the same mother-line as Hilltop's late stallion VIP) and was a successful showjumper herself.
