Hilltop Farm first
spotted Royal Appearance as a young foal in Germany when we were
acquiring his sire, Riverman, and purchased this youngster to represent
his sire in the U.S. Royal Appearance has lived up to those early
expectations, both as a performance horse and as a breeding stallion. |

In 2000, Royal Appearance
took part in the Federation's 100-Day Stallion Performance Testing in
California. He placed 4th overall and finished as a Class I stallion,
earning 9's in character, willingness to work, and ability to work. Royal
Appearance was the only stallion at the testing to earn every mark of at
least a 7. He proved himself to be a solid, complete athlete.

| In 2001, Royal Appearance
took part in his first year on the show jumping circuit under Margie
Goldstein-Engle, successfully competing in numerous American Young Jumper
Championship qualifiers. During the AYJC Finals at the Hampton Classic over
the first weekend of September, 2001, Royal Appearance maintained a no fault
record and was one of fifteen 6-year olds to make it to the final day of
competition. In the dramatic jump-off round, Royal Appearance was one of
three to go clear and he finished in 2nd place. |

After his return to Hilltop
Farm, Royal Appearance showed yet more versatility by successfully competing
in combined training events under Hilltop trainer Hans Engberg. He showed a
bold, athletic gallop that handled tricky combinations easily and a forward
“no-quit” attitude.
This exceptional
athleticism is no surprise. Royal Appearance has many of Riverman's most
valuable qualities. His strength of conformation, his natural elevation and
swing, his strength and scope over fences are nearly carbon copies of his
successful sire. With a content, confident, and kind attitude, Royal
Appearance demonstrated all the qualities needed to continue to excel in
sport. |

While only breeding limited numbers of mares,
Royal Appearance has shown that he passes on his athleticism, confidence,
and work ethic to his foals. In his first foal crop, Royal Appearance
produced the year 2000 East Coast Reserve Champion Colt "Royal Raconteur"
out of the Thoroughbred mare Bella Marina*, bred by Eileen Pritchard-Bryan.
Royal Raconteur has grown into an exceptional athlete and is currently
competing at Intermediate level eventing. In 2007, Royal Appearance earned
another Star-Award from ISR/Oldenburg NA for his production of
premium offspring.
With his world-renowned sire standing under the same roof, Hilltop Farm made
the decision to donate Royal Appearance to Virginia Tech where his athletic
influence, generous character, and bold enthusiasm will contribute to
Virginia Tech’s respected breeding program. A limited supply of frozen
semen is still available through Hilltop Farm and is being offered to our
breeders at a special promotion price.
