Combeshead Stroke of Luck
A real life Black Beauty, “Guinness” is a home bred pure Irish Draught black gelding yearling with white star and two white socks. He was sired by International Grand Prix dressage stallion Steeped in Luck C1 out of proven showing and hunting dam, Ballytina Queen C1.
Guinness is very much a show stopper who has all the attributes of his sire and dam with a huge expressive movement, straight and correct coupled with a sane brain and gorgeous temperament!
Bred and foaled on our private family stud in Somerset, Guinness has been well handled since birth. Striking black with two near side white socks, Guinness is expected to finish at 16.2/3hh with 9.5 – 10 inches of quality flat bone.
Guinness has been bred for performance and temperament, and his sire Steeped in Luck C1 representing both the US and Canada at the highest levels in dressage, including the Olympics, and being a 5 star Irish Sport Horse in Dressage, a Gold Premium Canadian Sports Horse, and a Class 1 Gold Premium Irish Draught.
Steeped in Luck offspring have AA friendly temperaments, known for being “amateur friendly” and are quality versatile athletes, with consistent performances. We have already seen his offspring competing at the 3* level in Eventing, showing up to Prix St Georges in Dressage and winning premium titles at their foal inspections. Just My Luck – a successful 3* eventer. Steeped in Splendour – the first UK foal awarded Gold Premium Status at the British Breeding Faturity and featured on the Gold League for Eventing. Salient – filly foal who won the prestigious Lieutenant Governor’s Cup in Canada. Other Notable Progeny include in competition, such as De Stroke of Luck, Pairadox Bogart, Pairadox Fella and Ballyfox Fergus.
Steeped In Luck C1 enjoyed a 14 year competition career, which speaks for itself for itself in terms of soundness and temperament, and as such his stud availability has been limited but his progeny have already earned high accolades in both the UK and North America.
Guinness’s dam, Ballytina Queen C1, was also awarded the Hornby Premium when she achieved Grade 1 Class at her IDSH(GB) Inspection with Guinness as her foal at foot in September 2025. By Dunkerrin Grey Mist C1, Guniness’ dam also carries some of the very best Irish Draught bloodlines, including Carrabawn View C1, King Elvis C1, Annaghdown Star C1, Mountain View C1 and Sea Crest C1.
No vices, habits, lumps, bumps or blemishes, Guinness has good strong feet with ample quality flat bone just like his sire and dam. Guinness has has regular feet trimming with our farrier, worming programme, and up to date with his first two flu and tet vaccinations. Guinness leads well, has worn rugs, travels and being very people friendly, even comes to call to his name from his paddocks.
Guinness is fully eligible for grading when he’s more mature and without doubt would be expected to achieve a Class 1 with merit like his parents.
