A Hilltop homebred, Balissa HTF has a special place in our hearts and is one of Jane’s favorite horses on the farm. Balissa had a successful breed show start as a youngster that included top placings and year-end awards.  In the summer of her three year old year, she showed lightly in Materiale classes with the impressive average of 82.8%.  That same year she had the highest-scoring Mare Performance Test of her inspection.

Balissa has been a consistent winner at every level shown.   She was the AHS Horse of the Year for Four-Year Olds and First Level.  Balissa was shown up to Fourth Level and showed a natural talent for the collected work, easily offering a very high-quality piaffe & passage.  She has always been one of her trainers’ favorite horses to ride given her steady, reliable nature and her enthusiasm for work.

Balissa’s competition highlights include:

  • 2009 Fair Hill Breed Show ~ Reserve Grand Champion & Reserve Young Horse Champion
  • 2009 USDF Horse of the Year ~ Reserve Champion 2-Year Old Fillies
  • Elite Mare Candidate with the American Hanoverian Society
  • Premium Mare with ISR/OldenburgNA
  • 2011 Dressage at Devon ~ 2nd & 4th in the USEF 4-year old classes
  • 2011 American Hanoverian Society Champion USEF 4-year old division
  • 2012 Florida Season ~ Multiple High-Score Awards at First Level
  • 2012 USDF Horse of the Year ~ Reserve Champion First Level
  • 2012 USDF All-Breeds Awards ~ AHS 1st First Level
  • 2012 USDF Region 1 Championships ~ 3rd place Second Level

Balissa’s sire, Bugatti Hilltop, was winner of the dressage phase of his 70-Day Stallion Test, competed at the Bundeschampionat and FEI World Championships for Young Horses, and was a consistent FEI competitor under three different riders in Europe and the US.  Bugatti is a half-brother to the Olympic and World Equestrian Games competitor Santana. Balissa is out of the Elite Hanoverian mare Contesse.  Granddam Athena was an FEI level competitor and grandsire Contucci is one of the most proven stallions in the US for the production of dressage horses.  Contucci is consistently in the top placings for the USEF Sire of the Year rankings, has sired multiple US National Championships, and his offspring are winning from Training Level to Grand Prix with professionals, amateurs, & juniors.

Balissa will join Hilltop Farm’s broodmare program in the spring of 2016.
