Licensed in 2000 in Germany, Don Hill completed his 30-day test at Vechta. In 2003 he qualified for the Bundeschampionat under Anja Rietbrock, who also developed the Hilltop stallion Royal Prince in his early years. Don Hill was then exported to England and successfully competed through Prix St. Georges. In late 2010 Don Hill debuted on the Florida circuit with scores in the high 60s and continues his FEI career with his owner Virginia Leary.
His sire Don Gregory has had an impressive career combing breeding and sport duties. Under Martina Hannover he was an FEI winner through Grand Prix. Don Gregory has sired 10 approved sons including Don Davidoff and Day Dream, States Premium and Brillant Ring daughters, and many successful offspring that are winning in FEI dressage competitions around the globe including Don Charly and Daylight.
Don Gregory’s dam, Granate, has also produced the licensed stallions Don Graphit and Playboy, as well as the successful Grand Prix mare Perdita. Granate is by the versatile Grande son, Graphit who also sired Grundstein I & II and Grannus.
Don Hill dam’s, Hella, is by the important Thoroughbred sire Hill Hawk xx. Hill Hawk stood in Oldenburg from 1977-1989 and was then stationed at Celle from 1990-1995. He sired 4 approved sons including Hitchcock. His descendents have proven their worth as very successful dressage mounts. Further back in Hella’s pedigree is the stallion Pik Bube II. This combination of Don Gregory x Hella has resulted in three States Premium mares in addition to Don Hill. Hella is also dam to the licensed stallion Demirel (Dimaggio) who was a Bundeschampionat competitor as a five and six year old.
In the fall of 2011, Don Hill was presented to ISR/Oldenburg NA and was Reserve Champion of the licensing. He then went on to compete at the prestigious Dressage at Devon. Looking fit and full of energy, Don Hill won his Stallions In-Hand Class and captured the Devon Stallion Championship.
Don Hill has an uncomplicated character and has very comfortable gaits to ride. He is a moderate size, has a well-set neck, and a powerful hindquarter. He stood for a limited number of seasons in Germany prior to his export and we look forward to seeing his influence on American breeding.
“Don Hill offers a strong pedigree that we feel will compliment a variety of mares. He continues to impress us with his character and adaptability and is a perfect partner for his owner. We look forward to participating in his development as both a competition horse and as a sire." ~ Natalie DiBerardinis
