About Donarweiss GGF
An impressive pedigree, beautiful type, and excellent show record have made Donarweiss a standout the past few years in Hilltop Farm’s Guest Stallion Program. His sire De Niro was Reserve Champion of his Performance Test with a score of 141.93. De Niro had a wonderful sport career with over 24 wins at S level as well as proving himself as an exceptional sire. He has sired 108 States Premium Mares and 25 approved sons and has an FN Breeding Value of 144 points in Dressage. De Niro was named the 2009 Stallion of the Year for the Hanoverian Verband. Grandsire Donnerhall was for many years the leading dressage stallion in the world and under Karin Rehbein won medals at the European Championships and World Equestrian Games.
Donarweiss’s dam sire, Hohenstein, was Reserve Champion of his Stallion Performance Test. His son, His Highness, caused an international sensation when he was sold for a record 550,000 Euro. Hohenstein’s FN Breeding Value is an impressive 149 points for dressage and his sire Caprimond is heavily used in both Hanoverian and Trakehner breeding programs for the lovely type, correct foundation, and rideability that he consistently passes on. Further back in Donarweiss’s pedigree we find Archipel, a son of the 1994 Hanoverian Stallion of the Year Argentan, who brings additional scope and jumping ability.
Donarweiss was very successful as an early stallion winning the NEDA Grand Championship, the USDF/Cosequin New England Final Championship, and was the 2004 USDF Horse of the Year Award for 3-year old Colts & Geldings. He was then named Champion of his 30-day test with an overall score of 8.33 in 2005. His versatility was showcased with individual scores of 9 for rideability and jumping technique.
Donarweiss began his dressage career in 2006 and qualified for the USEF Young Horse National Championships. In late 2007 Chris Hickey took over the ride and the results were immediate. In his first season at FEI and at only 7 years old, Donarweiss was ranked 1st for the AHS All-Breeds Awards with a median score over 68%. That same summer he earned his lifetime approvals with both ISR/Oldenburg and the American Hanoverian Society creating further opportunities for North American breeders. In 2009 Donarweiss won the USDF Region 8 Prix St. Georges Championships and the following season, he finished 2nd in AHS All-Breeds Awards and 11th in the nation for Intermediaire II with scores as high as 72%. In 2011 Donarweiss had an impressive first season at Grand Prix with a median score over 65%. Later that fall, Donarweiss was sold to Starr Vaughn Equestrian Center and will be competed by Genay Vaughn in the FEI Young Riders and Brentina Cup divisions in the coming years.
For the past three years Donarweiss has sired foals that have tied for high-score in the nation with ISR/OldenburgNA. His offspring are consistently winning at Breed Shows and his oldest offspring are now proving themselves under saddle at both dressage and hunter competitions. In 2010, Donatella was the Grand Champion of the Fair Hill Breed Show and in 2011, Dior was the Reserve Champion in the USDF/GAIG East Coast Foal Final at Devon and finished the year ranked 1st for USDF Horse of the Year standings for weanling fillies.
