About Parabol

Parabol

Parabol was Reserve Champion of his stallion licensing in Oldenburg and Champion of his 100-Day Performance Testing with 140.32 points overall. He achieved the Honorable title "Champion of Oldenburg" as a 4-year old due to exceptional success at his 100-Day testing and excellent results of his first foal crop. Parabol left a Show Jumping career, where he had been ridden by a young rider to top honors, and made an easy transition to dressage upon his importation to the US in 1990.

Scott Hassler rode Parabol to the USDF Third Level Horse of the Year title in his first year of dressage in 1991. Parabol made the USET's developing horse list and was a top ten finalist for the 1995 Pan American Team. Parabol's development to the Grand Prix in dressage brought further national titles and year-end awards. In the year 2000, Parabol introduced a new rider, Susanne Hassler, to the Grand Prix arena. Parabol continued to teach new riders and enjoy a light riding schedule into his mid-20's.

Parabol has always been a true gentleman, both under saddle and in the stable. He is absolutely reliable and never confuses his roles as sporthorse or stallion. His movement is light, electric, and efficient. His beautiful expression is generated from a clear, active hind leg and tremendous freedom through the shoulder. Parabol provides the easy, adjustable movement and dependable character that makes his influence appropriate for riders of all ages and abilities.

Parabol's pedigree demonstrates athleticism and rideability. His sire Paradox I, the Westphalian stallion largely credited for modernizing the breed, bears a very solid jumping production record. Parabol's damsire Waldschuetz is by the Hannoverian improvement sire Waidmannsdank, whose production record of talented dressage horses is well noted.

ParabolSignificant successes amongst Parabol's offspring in Germany put Parabol in top rankings of the German stallion indexes for many years in a row. In 1994, Parabol was ranked 4th by the German FN for stallions in his age group. Some of his notable offspring include: Pretty Woman, a mare who at age 4 sold for 350,000 DM (the second highest price) at the prestigious Performance Sales International (PSI) auction. Picard, a gelding who at 4-years of age sold for the second highest price at the Vechta Elite Sale; and Pijou, a States Premium Mare by Parabol who earned 10's on jumping capability and technique.

Parabol is represented by other successful daughters. Parlez (Parabol-Consul-Werther) was the 1997 East Coast Mare Champion with ISR/OldenburgNA. She later won her Mare Performance Test and had a successful career in both eventing and dressage. Posh (Parabol-Absatz-Grallsritter) won her Mare Performance Test with the AHS, earning 8's and 9's on her jumping ability. She has continued on with her successful eventing career. Pharaoh, an approved Oldenburg stallion by Parabol owned by Thomas Farm, was highly successful in California's CDIs under Dennis Callin at the Prix St. Georges/Intermediare I level prior to his exportation to Germany.

Parabol's offspring in the US have gained considerable reputation in the hunter arena as well. Paramount, owned then by Stony Hill Farm and ridden by Peter Pletcher, was the 1997 Circuit Champion of Indio and Devon in the Pre-Green Hunter division and has moved on to the Amateur Owner Hunters. St. Patrick has been a top competitor for a number of years in Junior Hunters and the Amateur Owner Hunters and Charleston is a winning Large Junior Hunter.

Parabol offers a very correct, solid conformation for his foals with beautiful angles in the shoulder and hindquarter.  He offers well-balanced, comfortable gaits and beautiful form over fences. Like their sire, his offspring give a very comfortable feeling for the rider and have a genuine, kind nature.

“Parabol was one of the first horses to move into Hilltop Farm and we feel blessed to still have his magnificent presence here 20 years later. It’s a privilege to see him enjoying his retirement and thankfully through frozen semen we still get to enjoy new Parabol foals each year.” ~ Jane MacElree
