The Foals Continue to Arrive
It’s a Foal Fest at Hilltop! We may have started a little slow, but the mares are making up for it now. On the night of April 10th, Gina Leslie’s lovely Elite Mare Lexus (Liberty Gold-Armin) had her first foal, a handsome black colt by Doctor Wendell MF. Just a few days later on April 16th it was another colt! Congratulations to Catherine Haddad Staller on the birth of her very flashy Don Principe colt out of her maiden mare Raureif (Ramiro’s Bube – DeNiro). More foals to come, but we are thrilled with the foal crop so far!
The Lamplight Equestrian Center showgrounds were an exceptional stage for the USEF Young Horse National Championships this past weekend and we could not be happier with the performances of Hemmingway (Hofrat - Archipel) and Qredit Hilltop (Quaterback - Dream of Glory).
Festrausch (Florestan-Carprilli) has been an important part of the stallion line-up at Hilltop Farm since his purchase in 2000. His bloodlines, incredible movement, and elegant type stood him apart, and it is the movement and character that he passes to his offspring that have made many of his breeders very loyal to him over the years.

Kristi Nunnink's default expression is a smile. It doesn't matter how hard she's working, what level she's riding or how the horse under her is performing -- her mouth curls faintly upward, unforced. It may just be a coincidence of facial structure, or it may be a product of years of habit. But either way, the expression fits her, because Nunnink may very well be the happiest rider at Rolex Kentucky. At 48, she's heading to her first CCI**** with her horse of a lifetime.
Wisconsin breeders work on one foal at a time. Shannon (a competitive dressage rider) and Doug Langer, DVD, (a partner of the Wisconsin Equine Clinic and Hospital) have bred Hanoverians for 10 years at their Maple Run Farm in Helenville, Wisconsin. They arrived on the international stage when their homebred Cabana Boy represented the United States at the 2007 World Young Horse Championships.
